The German language, belonging to the Western Germanic stock, is spoken in Germany, Austria and within the German speaking part of Switzerland. The most important external influences came form the Latin and Greek language. Numerous important words used in science, technology and everyday life are borrowed out of them. Later elements of the French language spoken in the aristocracy were integrated.
